How Do I Met Her?

"How do you get to know her?" This is a question many people asked. Back in 1996, sometime in February, the school library was appointing some librarians. Those who were interested must fill a form and attach a passport sized photo. She applied for the post. As a libarian, I get to see all those forms (As a matter of fact, I'm just being busybody!). I was browsing through all those forms with a couple of friends (guys) until I saw her form. My cheeky friends said that she was pretty and deep within my heart I agreed although I didn't utter a word. I just smiled at them.

I didn't get to meet her until one day when I was staying back at school, I was walking to my class from the canteen. Then I saw her. She was walking out to the school gate with her green mountain bike while talking to her friend. When she saw me, she smiled. I wondered why, but I didn't know about it until a few months later. Anyway, I didn't think much about it.

As a candidate for the librarian post, one must go through two stages. The first one is a written test to test the person's knowledge about a library and how it's organize. If pass, the person will then be interviewed. And so she passed. It didn't surprise me, as I've expected her to pass. I was called to help out on the day of the interview. My job? Call names. I didn't get to call her name, though. I left early and was replaced by my good ol' friend, Leonard. The result? You should know.

When it's time for them to be presented the "PROBATIONARY LIBRARIAN" tag, I was cleaning the library. Then, she turned to me again, this time with another friend of her, and smiled cheekily. Feeling embarrased, I went out of the library.

A few weeks later, there was this mutual cooperation thing ("gotong-royong" in Malay), And all librarians are supposed to attend (DUH!). We were divided into a few groups and given different works. I was given the honour to clean the Fiction Counter. While cleaning, my best friend, Tan Wiyang take the opportunity to know her and introduced himself. After finishing my work, I sat at a corner with a oh-so-stylish pose and read a book. I was concentrating so hard on the book that I didn't realise she was approaching. In a sudden, she shouted "Hoi!" at me to scare me. I was shocked. From that moment onwards, I always disturb her where ever I saw her. Well, that is how I met her. We didn't actually introduced ourselves because we already knew each other's names.
